Welcome to Cape Ann Skeptics
We are a group of people interested in exploring the world with a skeptical point of view.
Our definition of skepticism is "rational, critical, and scientific thinking." We are not cynics nor contrarians. Rather, we are people who look at the world rationally.
Skeptics in the Pub on Cape Ann
Like Skeptics in the Pub meetings around the world, we gather as an opportunity for skeptics to meet one another and share ideas.
Meetings are generally scheduled for the third Tuesday of every month. There is no cost or registration.
|On January 17, Michael Kruse will speak, via Skype, to Cape Ann Skeptics. Michael is the executive director of “Bad Science Watch” a Canadian non-profit consumer protection watchdog and science advocacy organization dedicated to improving lives by countering bad science. He will speak on the subject of “Empathy and Science Advocacy.” He says, “When we are faced with the irrational and conspiratorial claims of the alternative medicine community the science minded community often responds with anger, incredulity and frustration.” He goes on to explain that this often leads to ineffective responses. Thus the need for empathy and appropriate goal setting when creating messages.|
